  • Friday 18 July 2025 That's a wrap! Mrs Taylor was really proud of Willow Class on Friday - their bike and scooter day was a success and the children were so well behaved and had a lot of fun.
  • Friday 11 July 2025 Fun on the Clumps! We were so proud of all the children who completed the long walk last Friday, especially our younger children who came along for the whole route. Well done. So far we have raised just over £1200 - really impressive. Thank you so much everyone!   • Friday 4 July 2025 Finishing Strong! As another week ends and we approach the summer, it is great to see our children finishing strong! Sports day was a success and all teams worked hard. Red Team were the over all winners but everyone is to be congratulated for their efforts.
  • Friday 27 June 2025 The term is whizzing by! We cannot believe how fast the term is whizzing by. Children here remain focussed on their learning. Willow Class had a wonderful day on Wednesday visiting the Cotswold Wildlife Park. They enjoyed learning about predators and prey and going on the train.
  • Friday 20 June 2025 Shining our light in the sunshine Willow Class got to hold the chicks at the beginning of the week. This was a new and fascinating experience for some of our children. It was heart-warming to see how gentle and kind they were when handling live animals.
  • Friday 13 June 2025 A busy but fun week Well done to all our children this week for shining their lights so brightly and working really hard.
  • Friday 6 June 2025 Lots of learning going on We have had a busy week here in school with lots of wonderful learning going on. We have welcomed Mrs Taylor into Willow Class. She will be covering Mrs Lewis while she is on maternity leave and will teach Willow Class on Thursdays and Fridays.
  • Thursday 22 May 2025 Good learning continues As we reach the end of what has a been a short but busy term, we can reflect on the good learning that continues to go on across school. Willow class have worked really hard this week to create their own version of 'The Naughty Bus'.
  • Friday 16 May 2025 Smiley, supportive and resilient Year 6 The other children in Oak Class have been working on presentations about the Stone Age to share with their class. I have heard about some great progress being made with Powerpoint.
  • Friday 9 May 2025 A short but busy week A short but busy week here in school. Willow Class have been enjoying reading Mr Gumpy stories. They also made boats for him earlier in the week. Hazel Class have been thinking about setting descriptions in their writing and they have been learning how to make and draw electrical circuits. Oak Class have been thinking deeply about VE day and writing diary entries as though they were a child at the time.
  • Friday 2 May 2025 Sunshine, stories and circuits Willow Class have been enjoying transport stories in class this week and the Year 1 children were doing some super writing with adjectives. Reception children had a wonderful afternoon at forest school yesterday and I was privileged to join them. I think they enjoyed splashing me 'accidentally'!
  • Friday 25 April 2025 Welcome to the summer term Welcome to the summer term. We are hoping for some sunshine and lots of opportunities to do some outside learning this term.
  • Friday 4 April 2025 Thanks to everyone and Happy Easter! We have had a lot going on in school this week and I am really proud of our wonderful little school and the way we show compassion to one another and to our community.
  • Friday 28 March 2025 Well done Team DSB! What a super week we have here at Dorchester! Children have been working hard to shine their lights. Willow Class have been investigating capacity in their maths work this week. They have also been making and preparing lovely things for special people to receive over the weekend.
  • Friday 21 March 2025 Well done Hazel Class! Willow Class have been out and about in the village learning about staying safe on the roads. Year 5 and 6 in Oak Class have started learning about Space while Year 4 are completing their plants topic by considering what the world would be like with no insects.
  • Friday 14 March 2025 All about Science We have been all about the science this week in school as we celebrated Science Week with a wonderful Science day filled with exciting investigations and learning. Thanks go to Mrs Grenfell for organising and all our parents and friends of the school who came to share their knowledge and experience with us. All the children looked great in their scientist clothes too. Well done everyone.
  • Friday 7 March 2025 Super learning in the sunshine Willow Class enjoyed meeting some Grandparents and learning about old toys. Thank you to our visitors for providing this valuable learning opportunity for our children.
  • Friday 28 February 2025 Enthusiasm and compassion What a super positive start back after half term we have had here. Well done everyone.
  • Friday 14 February 2025 Learning, aspirations and breaking the rules! As we come to the end of this half term, we can reflect on all the great progress being made by our children. This week I have had the privilege of working across the whole school and what an absolute pleasure it has been hearing children enthusiastically talk about their learning and their aspirations.
  • Thursday 6 February 2025 Toys and trees It has been a busy couple of weeks here in school. Willow Class enjoyed a visiting museum workshop today where they learned more about toys from the past.
  • Friday 24 January 2025 Another fantastic week Willow Class have been looking for a 'lost' teddy this week! They have written some great letters and have lots of ideas about where he might be.
  • Friday 17 January 2025 Volcanoes, rainforests and more We can't quite believe that another week has flown by here. Children have been enjoying finding out more about their new topics. Oak Class are planning newspaper reports. They have heard a recount of the eruption of Vesuvius by Pliny the Elder and are learning more about volcanoes.
  • Friday 10 January 2025 Welcome back to 2025 Happy new year everyone! I do hope you have all enjoyed a wonderful Christmas. On behalf of all the staff, we would like to say a huge thank you for all the lovely cards, gifts and kind words at the end of last term. It is great to feel so appreciated.
  • Friday 20 December 2024 Happy Christmas! Willow Class wrote letters to Santa and then visited the post box to post their letters.
  • Friday 13 December 2024 A Christmassy week What a privilege it has been to be part of the school this week! Willow Class put on a beautiful Nativity for us earlier in the week. We were very proud of how brave they all were speaking their lines and singing so nicely on the stage in front of an audience.
  • Friday 6 December 2024 Christmas has arrived at DSB Oak Class are going to sing to the local community in the village hall today. We are really proud of them for doing this and we hope the audience enjoy listening to them.
  • Friday 29 November 2024 Proud of our hard workers As another week flies by we are proud of all the hard work that our children are doing here at Dorchester St Birinus Primary. I had the privilege of teaching Willow Class in the week and the progress they are all making is excellent. There is some amazing phonics going on with our Reception children and the independent writing from Year 1 about a setting for a story was great.
  • Friday 22 November 2024 A resilient bunch Year 4 enjoyed a fun science session this week - learning how the digestive system works. They used various things to create a model and enjoyed creating 'poo' once they'd learned about the stomach and the intestines.
