• Friday 4 April 2025 Thanks to everyone and Happy Easter! We have had a lot going on in school this week and I am really proud of our wonderful little school and the way we show compassion to one another and to our community.
• Friday 28 March 2025 Well done Team DSB! What a super week we have here at Dorchester! Children have been working hard to shine their lights. Willow Class have been investigating capacity in their maths work this week. They have also been making and preparing lovely things for special people to receive over the weekend.
• Friday 21 March 2025 Well done Hazel Class! Willow Class have been out and about in the village learning about staying safe on the roads. Year 5 and 6 in Oak Class have started learning about Space while Year 4 are completing their plants topic by considering what the world would be like with no insects.
• Friday 14 March 2025 All about Science We have been all about the science this week in school as we celebrated Science Week with a wonderful Science day filled with exciting investigations and learning. Thanks go to Mrs Grenfell for organising and all our parents and friends of the school who came to share their knowledge and experience with us. All the children looked great in their scientist clothes too. Well done everyone.
• Friday 7 March 2025 Super learning in the sunshine Willow Class enjoyed meeting some Grandparents and learning about old toys. Thank you to our visitors for providing this valuable learning opportunity for our children.
• Friday 28 February 2025 Enthusiasm and compassion What a super positive start back after half term we have had here. Well done everyone.
• Friday 14 February 2025 Learning, aspirations and breaking the rules! As we come to the end of this half term, we can reflect on all the great progress being made by our children. This week I have had the privilege of working across the whole school and what an absolute pleasure it has been hearing children enthusiastically talk about their learning and their aspirations.
• Thursday 6 February 2025 Toys and trees It has been a busy couple of weeks here in school. Willow Class enjoyed a visiting museum workshop today where they learned more about toys from the past.
• Friday 24 January 2025 Another fantastic week Willow Class have been looking for a 'lost' teddy this week! They have written some great letters and have lots of ideas about where he might be.
• Friday 17 January 2025 Volcanoes, rainforests and more We can't quite believe that another week has flown by here. Children have been enjoying finding out more about their new topics. Oak Class are planning newspaper reports. They have heard a recount of the eruption of Vesuvius by Pliny the Elder and are learning more about volcanoes.
• Friday 10 January 2025 Welcome back to 2025 Happy new year everyone! I do hope you have all enjoyed a wonderful Christmas. On behalf of all the staff, we would like to say a huge thank you for all the lovely cards, gifts and kind words at the end of last term. It is great to feel so appreciated.
• Friday 20 December 2024 Happy Christmas! Willow Class wrote letters to Santa and then visited the post box to post their letters.
• Friday 13 December 2024 A Christmassy week What a privilege it has been to be part of the school this week! Willow Class put on a beautiful Nativity for us earlier in the week. We were very proud of how brave they all were speaking their lines and singing so nicely on the stage in front of an audience.
• Friday 6 December 2024 Christmas has arrived at DSB Oak Class are going to sing to the local community in the village hall today. We are really proud of them for doing this and we hope the audience enjoy listening to them.
• Friday 29 November 2024 Proud of our hard workers As another week flies by we are proud of all the hard work that our children are doing here at Dorchester St Birinus Primary. I had the privilege of teaching Willow Class in the week and the progress they are all making is excellent. There is some amazing phonics going on with our Reception children and the independent writing from Year 1 about a setting for a story was great.
• Friday 22 November 2024 A resilient bunch Year 4 enjoyed a fun science session this week - learning how the digestive system works. They used various things to create a model and enjoyed creating 'poo' once they'd learned about the stomach and the intestines.
• Friday 15 November 2024 A super busy week! What a super busy week we have had here at Dorchester St Birinus.
• Friday 8 November 2024 Welcome to Timmy! Willow Class have created a huge dinosaur called Timmy who is now living in their classroom. They have also done some 'fossil' hunting and were excited to tell me all about it.
• Thursday 24 October 2024 Happy Half Term What a lot of wonderful things we have had going on throughout our school this week. Willow Class had a visit from a Doctor to help them learn about their bodies.
• Friday 18 October 2024 Another full week We've enjoyed another full week here at St Birinus Primary and I am always proud to show off our school to visitors which I had the opportunity to do earlier in the week. As ever, our children were polite and articulate when speaking to a visitor about their learning. Well done everyone!
• Friday 11 October 2024 Forest School Fun Hazel Class have learnt more about the Romans. They've dresssed and labelled gladiators and became a Roman army for an afternoon. They've also looked at the story of Romulus and Remus and used maps to find out about Roman roads.
• Friday 4 October 2024 Conkers and conquerors! October already and another busy week has passed here at St Birinus. Willow Class have had an exciting week this week as the huge egg in their classroom disappeared! They had lots of ideas about who the egg belonged to. Was it a dinosaur? Was it a dragon? There were definitely some mysterious footprints around school too! Year One had a lovely forest school afternoon with Elena- even though the Hurst was still flooded. They went for a walk to see the floods and then walked to the park for some forest school games and activities - lots of conkers were discovered.
• Friday 27 September 2024 More amazing work There is so much amazing work going on around our school at the moment. Willow Class are continuing their castle work by learning about kings and queens. They have created some beautiful crowns. Hazel Class are getting stuck into their Romans topic; writing a diary as a Roman soldier. Oak Class have been planning a story based on The Egyptian Cinderella.
• Friday 20 September 2024 Welcoming everyone We had a great start to our week considering how everyone is welcome in our school and I am pleased to say that I have witnessed many incidents this week where our children have been particularly kind and helpful. We have had various visitors in school through the week for different reasons and all have commented on how lovely our children are. Well done everyone!
• Friday 13 September 2024 Shining our light together We hope you enjoyed the opportunity to come and listen to your class teachers talk about school routines and class topics and we were pleased that so many of you took the opportunity to have a good look round classrooms too. We are passionate about working alongside parents so that our children can achieve their best and we think this was a good way for you to see some of what your children experience in our classrooms.

• Friday 19 July 2024 Happy Summer! We all enjoyed the Key Stage 2 show yesterday and were amazed by the talent on display. Congratulations to you all!
• Friday 12 July 2024 Looking forward Lots of exciting things have been going on across school this week.
• Friday 5 July 2024 Planning, poems and pirates! It is still incredibly busy here in school as we head towards the end of the school year. There is so much going on and children are really working incredibly hard to finish the year strong.
• Friday 28 June 2024 Class trips and a French Bistro Well done to everyone for another wonderful week in our school. The sun has finally decided to show its face and Willow Class have been enjoying some water play in the garden to help keep cool. They also had a fun trip to Beale Park yesterday and enjoyed the bouncy castles and seeing all the animals.
